Abai-Su is the highest non-cascade waterfall in Kabardino-Balkaria. The name of the waterfall was given in honor of the well-aimed hunter Abai. This natural attraction of the republic is very popular. Every year hundreds of tourists from all over the country come here to look at this unique creation of nature.
A beautiful, powerful, noisy waterfall seems to be pouring straight from the depths of the rock, falling down with incredible force. The waterfall flows into the lake. Abai-Su does not have cascades, it descends not in a single stream, but in a huge number of streams that run along the stone ledges, either connecting together or splitting into parts. You can spend hours admiring the beauty of falling water, its diversity and strength.
In winter, the waterfall completely freezes. As if time stops with it. An ice sculpture appears before tourists. This is an incredible sight. The radiance of stalactites and stalagmites under the winter sun gives all tourists amazing emotions. In warm winters, only the bottom of the waterfall freezes, and then the picture becomes completely amazing — the water from above is poured in a continuous stream like into an ice glass.
In the tour program we will visit one of the main attractions of the republic — Chegem waterfalls. Let’s admire how the noisy streams of water break into the steep cliffs of the picturesque gorge. Some of which flow down from the round holes of the rocks, some fall from a height in a wide water ribbon and breaking on stone ledges, break up into billions of water splashes.
The village of El-Tyubu
We will visit the ancient mountain village of El-Tubyu. This is a necropolis, the buildings of which are dated from the 10th to the 17th century. During the construction of the modern village, the remains of older buildings were preserved. Here the present meets the past. Everywhere reigns the aura of antiquity. Some stone houses are several hundred years old.
In the very center there is an ancient medieval tower, which was built by eminent masters for the Balkarukov princes in the 17th — 18th centuries.
Paragliding in Chegem
The Chegem canyon, mountains, gorges, rivers are of incredible beauty. It is not at all surprising that a paragliding was organized here. Everyone can fly over the mountain peaks. The conditions for flights are very comfortable, both professionals and beginners can ride. Several routes are offered, you can choose the best for yourself.
The cost of a flight over the Chegem Gorge is about 4,000 rubles.
The end of our tour will be the Abay-Su waterfall. Here we will be able to fully experience the full force and power of nature. Hundreds of people come here to feel the energy of this place. There are tourist bases nearby, some travelers stop there to relax in comfortable rooms, have eat and so on.
*If there is some time left, we can visit Aktoprak Pass on our way back. Here we will be able to walk along a narrow winding road with incredibly beautiful views around and admire the greatness of the local nature.
